Brescia University’s Athletic Department Honored with Two River States Conference Awards

Brescia University’s Athletic Department was honored with two awards from the River State Conference. Dr. Daniel Kuthy was named the 2019-2020 River States Conference Faculty-Athletics Representative of the Year.  The Brescia University men’s soccer team was also honored with being named the 2019-2020 River States Conference Men’s Team of Character award, making them the inaugural recipients of the award.

Dr. Kuthy has been the faculty representative to athletics for two years. He is currently a professor of political science.  The River States Conference Faculty-Athletics Representative of the Year award was established in the 2016-2017 season to recognize those faculty members within the conference that showcase outstanding service and dedication to their role in both the River States Conference and the NAIA.  The main role of the faculty representative is to certify the eligibility of student-athletes to make sure that they can represent their school in competition.

Our Brescia Bearcat men’s soccer team won the first ever River States Conference Men’s Team of Character. Throughout the academic year our men’s team helped the community, but also maintained academic success.  This was a goal set by head coach, Cameron Williams. The Bearcats raised money for area elementary programs through a fall festival, visited with local students to inspire them, marched in the Martin Luther King Jr Day parade to support differences, participated in the NAIA’s Live 5 program, and helped local teams with training programs. The student athletes were also involved with on campus organization and clubs, such as student government and orientation leaders. Academically, the men’s soccer team had 15 of the 20 players make the honor roll, have 10 players have a GPA above 3.25, and have an overall team GPA of 3.0.
